The Magic Flute

Aesthetic Movement Inspired suit

This suit was inspired by the mood of Oscar Wilde and the sketches of Aubrey Beardsly. Art for Arts sake was the driver of the aesthetic movement and was the same attitude that created the glorious mess of a plot in Mozarts Magic Flute. The designs were set to be in arainbow refracted late victorian greenhouse, and each character had the hot colour palette of tropical plants that were kept in them. This costume is a cross between man and bird, so the feathers, winged collar and swallow tail edges to the end of the trousers are all intended to suggest his flighty nature. As he is paid in figs, he has tiny amythist beads shaped like figs along the edges of his clothes.
